Ian MacKaye-Talking sense as usual
Not often can one step out and say, "...not only do I believe in this band's music, but I believe in their message".
For about 12 years I've been a loyal fan of FUGAZI, and their lyrics and music have always spoken to me in ways that other bands couldn't match. In turn, the shear ground breaking sense of their sounds has ceaselessly failed to be measured up or cantilevered into any particular genre.
It's funny whenever I'm in a music store I look around for ol' faithful fugazi, sometimes they're in POP, sometimes hardcore, sometimes "lush(?)", and of course punk. Sometimes it's aggravating, 'cause I can't find them when I want them, and other times it's just damn funny. Because, when I think about it, I just think of them as one of my hands-down-favorite-bands-of-all-time and also how hard it is to describe them to friends and acquaintances. And how funny it is when describing another band you say"...kind of like early fugazi..." either your audience looks at you funny or they go, "..oh..hell yea...no shit really...I got to check them out..."
I can thank my good old friend Chris (wherever he is) for introducing me to them, but I can only thank, time again, the band for stepping up and standing for true democratic principles and values and playing their fucking hearts out.
Listen to "In on the Kill-Taker" if you don't believe or follow me...I mean really listen to the lyrics. Listen to how the music underscores the message. So this evening, when I was perusing my favorite blogs (in this case boing boing-procrastinating-while Tracie takes a break from designing a new site and is jamming out on her sax) I happened upon an excellent interview with Ian MacKaye over at downhillbattle.org. And if you care about music and are sick of hearing the "record-industry" bemoan and crying about how their rights to others music, is paramount to the future of music and musing creation, while throwing children, tens, and other music fans into legal battles in our nations courts, then I suggest you drop by downhillbattle.org more often. Maybe even chime in from time to time yourself.
